Plans - in every sense of the word

It has been our first Winter here, we have heard from our neighbours that it has been one of the coldest in recent memory. We have had a lot of snow and ice, which in truth we’ve enjoyed. There are many waterfalls here, some just minutes from our door and I have never seen before how icicles form in moving water.
But the cold (along with a global pandemic) have slowed our plans for the studio. Now that the ice has broken we have found ourselves discussing in greater earnest, how we will move forward with our designs.
The great joy of the space is the height and light and how it is almost cut into the land, making it disappear from sight. And here it is very quiet, with no street light, there is something almost churchlike or spiritual about the space. After some initial intriguing sketches that made it somewhat more conventional inside, we are moving away from this and planning something much more open plan and simple.
At the moment the studio is home to much of Sam’s tools and timber. He has been building a treehouse in amongst running our businesses, the shared demands of childcare as well as various other jobs in our home. Which is itself a 17th century pair of cottages put together with an extension on the side. It has its own demands of us which will likely be surrendered to more fully, once the studio is completed.
For now we need to find another storage solution to empty out the studio for true works to begin. And we’ve only just begun to interview builders as well as just begun to define materials. It may take us a little bit of time to get a few of these ducks in a row before we are ready to break ground.
For now I will enjoy the beginning, the vision is always the most fun before real world practicalities take it down the paths you can never quite be sure of.
